Ken Barraclough

Ken Barraclough, pipe-smoker, ripe joker and midnight raconteur of rambles and rambler of recitations, came to the Teak fresh as a dazed bee from Radio 2's dark underbelly.  Before that he was one of the original DJs from Radio Liechtenstein, the only pirate radio station from the classic era to be operated within the five-mile limit (specifically, from a barge on the grand union canal).  His standard of living is maintained in style at the hands of his light grey masters and their dark brown voices.  His living up to standards is questionable.

Position

Ken plays bass within the band, as well as supplying it with its famous and magnificent kazoo solos.  He likes to be known as the suave, sexy sophisticate, a diamond among the rough.

Characteristics

Ken is famous for his moustache, which he has carefully tended with a set of miniature topiary shears.  He won Moustache Wearer of the Year (UK) in 1974 and again in 1976.

Ken's resonant, dark brown voice, which has won him so much radio work, is sometimes compared to a fine bearskin rug or a malty, rich whisky.  Ken likes to think of it as a rug soaked in whisky.

"Ladies in my life?" says Ken, nonchalantly flicking a speck of dust from his immaculate blue blazer.  "Of course there's my dog, Kensington, but she can be a bit of a bitch, ha ha!  But seriously -- I love women, and I deeply, deeply respect them for their minds.  I guess I'm just looking for that one special lady who'll make me a complete man.  I like to think one day our eyes will meet across a smoky bar, and we'll both know.  But until then, I like to live life to the fullest, and I'm always pleased to meet a new face.  So, ladies:  Come up and say hello anytime!"
