| rationale: | This is a song I wrote about the Seven Words Project. It goes to the tune of Five Years by David Bowie -- it should be noted that the rhythm is pretty loose. |

Looking through the dictionary,
So many words for rhyming,
A thought had just come over me --
"Let's take seven words -- or eight? No, wait, that mucks up the timing,
"And write a new song with them in --
"Guitars that sound like bells chiming,
"And let other people choose the words --
"What's this? Hatstand!? Oh no, what a mess I'm in!"
I got fripperies, accommodate, mephitic and Ed,
I got hobbit, buzzard, lemur, toe and tessela-ted,
And stupid words like Wienerschnitzel that didn't fit anywhere,
I had to cram so many things in to get all the words in there,
And all the deep-squeaky phonemes,
And all the back-front phonemes,
And all the unvocalized phonemes,
And all the vocalized phonemes,
Never thought I'd need so many phonemes,
First I couldn't find a rhyme for Ed
Even though it's really easy,
But most words end in an unstressed syllable,
And stressing it sounds pretty queasy.
Chandelier made it in OK
But I couldn't think where to put clarinet,
I squeezed fingerpaint in next to toe
And whelk caused the worst dissonance I'd made yet.
I found you in a mixed-up metaphor
With moths and neutrinos and flames,
I was trying to tell you how I really felt
But all I did was play silly word-games,
And all my rhymes were like crimes, and I felt so impatient,
And I wanted to manage it, but shit -- instauration!?
Your words -- your verbs -- the way that you talk,
I listen to you, you sound in me, I want you to talk!
We've got seven words to put in a song,
Seven words -- it just seems too long --
Seven words -- I can't say a lot --
Seven words -- when that's all I've got!
